Direct Wine Shipper Permit

  • What is the Direct Wine Shipper Permit?
    • This permit allows licensed wineries to ship wine directly to Maryland consumers.
  • Who can apply for this permit?
    • The permit is available to both Maryland-based wineries and wineries licensed outside of Maryland.
  • What is required to apply for the permit?
    • Applicants must provide copies of their federal and state alcohol licenses and a list of wines intended for sale in Maryland.
  • What are the reporting requirements for the permit holder?
    • Permit holders must file quarterly tax returns and remit applicable sales and alcohol taxes.
  • How long is the application process from start to finish?
    • An applicant can complete filling out the application form in 3-5 minutes.
    • If the permit address resides in Maryland, a premises inspection is required and will need to be scheduled which may take 2-3 weeks depending on availability.
    • Upon receipt of the completed application and required payment, the verification and determination on issuing said application may take 10-30 business days.
